Man makes victims disrobe, charged for aggravated robbery
Email Print
OWATONNA — A man charged with robbing three teenagers and making them take off their clothes before running them off, will serve eight years in prison for the October incident.

Justin Sellner, 25, pleaded guilty in Steele County District Court on Tuesday, to one count of aggravated robbery in the first degree. In exchange for his plea, three counts of kidnapping and two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery were dropped.

Sellner was sentenced Wednesday. He also was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $81 in court fees. According to the criminal complaint, two juveniles snuck out of a parent’s home and met up with a third juvenile to visit a friend’s home.

The three juveniles entered the home but did not find anyone there. They went looking for their friend in the basement but as they begin to leave the basement, they found Sellner at the top of the stairs.

Sellner allegedly pushed the three back into the basement and accused them of attempting a robbery. Sellner made them empty their pockets, leaving two cell phones, about $11 in cash and a prescription inhaler. One of the juveniles estimated Sellner kept them in the basement for about five to 10 minutes before he ordered them to strip naked and carry their clothes upstairs with them. Sellner then ordered the juveniles to throw their clothes on the floor and run outside naked.

Sellner was holding what the juveniles thought was a weapon, or a knife concealed in a sock.

A search warrant was issued, and inside the home the inhaler with one of the juvenile’s names printed on it was found along with clothing, a sock with a hammer in it and a knife next to a white T-shirt.

Sellner was convicted for theft in January 2007 after a similar incident in Waseca in October 2006. According to court documents, Sellner was involved in an armed robbery in which he held a man at gunpoint in a laundry room. He ordered the man to take off his clothes then hand over $575 in cash, two cell phones, the man’s wallet and a small knife. The man was then tied up with his own clothing.

I am glad to hear that this loser is being locked up once again. Any time his name makes the paper it is never anything good. From his past it sounds like he has a problem that he make guys take off their clothes maybe while he is in prison again he should try to get some help not that it would matter because im sure he will never strighten out. Maybe the state should think twice about letting him out into the public again.

Although I think it is great that a loser like this is getting put away for 8 years for this but I find that his fines and court costs pathetic. You get fined like $128 dollars or more for simple traffic violations. It is sad to see how the court systems are working these days. VERY VERY PATHETIC!!!

I guess its a good news/bad news scenario. Good news is he's locked up, bad news is he will have no income to pay fines. I'll take "locked up" for this guy

What an idiot.

Everyone who grew up with the guy saw this coming. It's a shame the kid who slugged it out with the Vice Principal at OJHS wasn't flagged for being a threat later in life.

Money? You think he's going to pay these fines anyway? Before this incident, this is a guy who was holding people at gunpoint who lived in his same apartment complex in Waseca. He's not going to get a real job so we can garnish wages. He's been a malicious thief for years, and we should save time and money by donating him to science.

I am sure the little coward will discover the joys of being on the receiving end in similar situations (being ordered to take off his clothes for another man) while in prison... a LOT.
People like this do not do well in the penal system. The fines are probably low because he was wearing a seatbelt at the time. LOL
Last year a Faribault man was sentenced to something like 8 years for bashing another in the head with a hatchet during a robbery/home invasion while a few months prior a man was sentenced to more than 50 years for robbing a bank (without a weapon - just a note). The ax man, 50, had several prior felonies for assault, drugs, attempted murder. The bank robber (I believe he was in his early 20's) had none of this.
So much for sentencing guidelines and, worse, common sense by the courts.

I heard from a friend this guy spit in a judges face one time. He is a real WHACK JOB and is totally nuts. He did probably get the whole making men take there clothes off from prison the first time. LOL. Someone below me said how a man got charged for bank robbery no weapon and got 50 years and a man maliciously attacked someone in a robbery and got 8 years. YES the SYSTEM IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. It makes me a little sick. So I guess its not ok to Rob someone but its ok to kidnap them in Justins case.
