This has been the strangest winter I have ever spent in Minnesota. On Jan. 10 it was 56 degrees; I was outside with no coat and ready to start spring work.

2011 Year in Review

1. School referendum

Voters in the Owatonna school district narrowly reject a ballot initiative that would have allowed the district to expand Willow Creek Intermediate School and purchase the former Pillsbury Baptist Bib

2. Councilmen in trouble

In separate and unrelated cases, two Owatonna City Council members plead guilty to charges.

3. School Board

OWATONNA — In some ways it seemed that the passageway into the board room for the Owatonna school district should have been equipped with a revolving door in 2011.

4. Tom Shea

OWATONNA — After 21 years as a Steele County commissioner, Tom Shea resigned in November in hopes to take a shot at the open county administrator position.
